Anyone for caviar?

I wore this Alannah Hill "Chasing Rainbows" frock to court yesterday (of course with a bolero jacket) and a very clever solicitor (you know who you are!) asked if I was supporting Black Caviar!!!

Until recently, black caviar conjured up images of

Caviar is simply sieved and lightly salted Sturgeon roe.

Beluga caviar is the rarest and most expensive.  It can range in color from pale silver-gray to black.

Sterlet  is rare and was once reserved for Russian czars, Iranian shahs and Austrian emperors.

Ossetra is next in quality and then Sevruga.

I'm not sure if you have tasted Caviar - it is delicious!!  There is quite a ritual when serving.

My first taste was at Le Cirque in Las Vegas and then at the Bellagio Caviar Bar where they have a whole menu of Caviar of all different flavours and prices.    Le Cirque has an amazing fit out and Michelin stars.

I've also caviar on Cathay - which was a lovely lunch on route to Hong King (one of my favourite cities).  A word of warning about Caviar - it is always best enjoyed on someone else's tab!

One of the best things about Caviar is that it goes with champagne.   Another one of my favourites...but I digress.

Black Caviar is now a household name in Australia because of one fabulous thoroughbred.
She has her own fan site www.blackcaviar.net.au and huge fan club and her own BLOG at www.racingvictoria.net.au)

Her sire was Bel Esprit (a Doomben 10 000 winner) and her dam is Desert Sun. She is 16.2 HH.   Her stable name is "Nelly" and she was foaled on 18 August 2006.

She is unbeaten and has won 20 races.   She is considered as one of the best horses in the world.  She is trained by Peter Moody and   has a number of owners, the majority of whom live in Victoria.

My family and I saw Black Caviar when she raced at Eagle Farm last year.  It was quite a day.  Mum even met the trainer and owners.  I wore a Wayne Cooper number and some heart tights

Nothing like a bit of PINK!!!

We waited ALL day for the races. Mum even met the trainers and went out to the stable.  It was hot work and thankfully there was lots of champagne!

We did LOTs of cheering!!!

AND we saw the FINISH!!!

This was our final glimpse of her as she galloped past.  Thanks to Dad for all the pics - it was a tricky job!!

The next question is will she race overseas?  Stay tuned....
